Description

Our mission is to assist in safeguarding the integrity of the State's correctional system - in effect, to act as the eyes and ears of the public in overseeing the State's prisons and correctional programs. The OIG accomplishes that mission by conducting ongoing system monitoring, and select reviews of policies, practices, and procedures of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) when requested by the Governor, the Senate Committee on Rules, or the Assembly. The OIG is also responsible for contemporaneous oversight of the internal affairs investigations and the disciplinary process of CDCR, for conducting reviews of the delivery of medical care at each State institution, and for determining the qualifications of candidates submitted by the Governor for the position of warden.
