The Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR), part of the Department of Consumer Affairs, protects Californians through effective oversight of the automotive repair industry and administration of vehicle emissions reduction and safety programs.

Repair or retire your vehicle

The Consumer Assistance Program offers consumers financial assistance with emissions repairs if their vehicle fails a Smog Check. Consumers can also retire their vehicle even if it passes a Smog Check. Applicants and their vehicles must meet eligibility requirements to participate.
