Governor Brown Signs Tribal Compacts

Published:

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced that he has signed tribal-state gaming compacts between the State of California and the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians and the Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians, as well as amendments to the current tribal-state gaming compacts with the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, and United Auburn Indian Community.

Each of the individually-negotiated new compacts include updated provisions for licensing, compliance enforcement, mitigation of off-reservation impacts and protections for patrons and employees that are consistent with other recent compacts. The regulatory provisions respect the authority of each Tribe’s professional regulators and build upon their constructive relationships with State gaming regulators. The compacts respect the strong government-to-government relationships that the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians and the Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians have with local jurisdictions by affirming existing agreements that address issues important to each Tribe and their local community in a manner that reflects their values and unique historical background. The terms of each compact reflect the Tribes’ specific circumstances and the markets in which each Tribe operates its gaming facility.

The amended compact with Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria conforms the provisions of its 2012 compact regarding workers’ compensation and authorized gaming activities to those of more recent compacts.

The amended compact with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians resolves ambiguity with regard to the use of certain existing tribal trust land under the provisions of its 2016 compact.

The amended compact with United Auburn Indian Community conforms various provisions of its 2015 compact to those of more recent compacts.
