Governor Brown Appoints Two to Sacramento County Superior Court

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the appointment of Stephen P. Acquisto and Michael G. Bowman to judgeships in the Sacramento County Superior Court.

Acquisto, 45, of Sacramento, has been chief deputy legal affairs secretary in the Office of Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. since 2011. He served at the California Department of Justice as a supervising deputy attorney general from 2004 to 2010 and as a deputy attorney general from 2001 to 2004. Acquisto was an adjunct professor at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law from 2003 to 2005. He was an associate at Mennemeier Glassman and Stroud LLP from 1998 to 2001 and at Rushford and Bonotto LLP from 1995 to 1998. Acquisto earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Effective January 31, 2014, he will fill the vacancy to be created by the retirement of Judge Peter J. McBrien. Acquisto is a Democrat.

Bowman, 53, of Elk Grove, has been a criminal defense attorney in private practice since 1995. He was partner at Lewis and Bowman from 1991 to 1995 and a deputy district attorney at the Kern County District Attorney’s Office from 1988 to 1991. Bowman earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Lloyd Connelly. Bowman is a Democrat.

The compensation for each of these positions is $181, 292.
