Governor Brown to Sign Historic School Funding Legislation in Los Angeles and Sacramento Tomorrow

Published:

LOS ANGELES – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. will join legislative, education, business and civil rights leaders tomorrow in Los Angeles and Sacramento, where he will sign historic school funding legislation that directs additional resources to the state’s neediest students and restores local control over how money is spent in schools.

The legislation, also known as the “Local Control Funding Formula,” increases flexibility and accountability at the local level by restoring local education agencies’ control over money previously earmarked for state-mandated programs. This legislation also strategically directs additional money above base funding to children with the greatest need – low-income students, English learners and foster youth.

In Los Angeles, Governor Brown will be joined by Assembly Speaker John Pérez, author of the Middle Class Scholarship Act (AB 94), which will also be signed at the event. Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg will join Governor Brown in Sacramento.
